Project Engineer

Executive Overview:

AMS Mechanical Systems, Inc. is a 50 year Mechanical contracting firm serving the commercial, industrial, refrigeration and nuclear industries (PMT).

During its 50 year existence, AMS has grown from a small refrigeration contractor with a few employees to a multi discipline and multi market MEP contractor with more than 500 employees. This growth combined with our diversification, the increased utilization of technology and fabrication has brought many new challenges to our workflow and operating process’s.

Corporate Objective:

As part of our long term strategic plan and strong vision for the future we have decided that it is in our best interest to hire a Project Engineer. The Project Engineer will report to the President, Ben Campbell.

Responsibilities:

    • Work closely with Project Manager (PM) to review building best practices to support profitable and quality project execution.
    • Assist PM and Field Supervision to ensure installation occurs correctly.       Take initiative to minimize systems re-work.
    • Utilize training and knowledge garnered to date to further develop understanding of Mechanical Systems, and utilize your still developing skill set to apply this knowledge of the systems installed to assist Field Supervision and troubleshoot installations as necessary.
    • Work closely with Engineering group for development of Design-Build projects, and manage documentation to prevent errors associated with this type of work. Collaborate with others to ensure lessons learned from other projects are applied to upcoming work under your management.
    • Utilize Project Documentation plan to manage and track Submittals, RFIs, Current Project Specifications, and Current Project Plans
    • Maintain log of RFIs, Submittals, Drawings, and Issues both for Field use (iPad Management) and for Office use.
    • Review and process returned documentation for Scope Compliance, and distribute to relevant project stakeholders
    • Maintain awareness of project milestones and potential issues.       Attempt to identify these issues and reach resolution prior to becoming critical in nature by reviewing:
      • Equipment lead-times
      • Milestone Construction Schedules
      • Project scope-gaps
    • When necessary, assign issue numbers and organize supporting documentation for issues that arise during construction
    • Generate and manage accurate Google Spreadsheet of all Project Equipment. Ensure it is maintained as changes are made.
  • Project Cost Management
    • Work with PM Staff to learn fundamentals of cost management and projections
    • Assist PM Staff with the generation, tracking, and closing of Purchase Orders
    • Apply this understanding to management of costs within Spectrum for project you are assigned to.
  • Subcontractor and Vendor management skills
    • Work with PM to identify and clearly document necessary Subcontractor and Vendor scopes of work
    • Assist PMs with “Buy Out”, and procure selected scopes of work for awarded bid packages
    • Ensure execution of work meets project requirements and Contracted Scope of Work
    • Work with PM to review invoicing, and ensure said invoices are received in time for project billing cycle
  • Lead project Close out
    • Identify and manage project close out requirements
    • Identify and manage testing requirements such as pressure testing, duct leak testing, and factory testing reports etc. Ensure these reports are organized and available for potential CxA Audits prior to assembly into Close Out Package.
    • Work with Vendors, subcontractors, and other Coordinating Trades to ensure necessary documentation is available and distributed prior to startup, balancing, commissioning, and project close-out
    • Manage commissioning (Cx) documentation, and assist with Cx Scheduling and coordination.
    • Work with PM to develop and review Systems Narrative for AMS IOM package
    • Develop IOM package for Submission to GC for approval prior to required milestone date
  • BIM Coordination Skills
    • Review and participate in 3D coordination to support lead BIM Coordinator
    • Track potential changes identified in coordination, and ensure they are addressed in a timely fashion
    • Manage BIM department deliverable requirements and dates to ensure AMS meets project requirements.
    • Apply knowledge of field and Contractual requirements to ensure timely and thorough shop drawing reviews to the BIM department.
  • Quality Control Skills
    • Work with PM Staff to develop QC plan for implementation with the Field
    • Perform periodic and frequent QC Site walks to ensure compliance with AMS and Project standards and requirements
    • Identify, track, and communicate QC issues, and ensure they are addressed by responsible parties.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Reliability, strong work ethic and excellent communication skills
