Our History

Six Decades In The Making

1963

A Refrigeration Company That Cares

John Berzanskis Sr. starts the company out of a former gas station facility in Chicago, under the name Antarctic Refrigeration, Inc. with a simple premise: work hard and provide honest, reliable service.

1982

The Next Generation Takes The Reins

John F. Berzanskis Jr. becomes president and owner, always holding fast to his father's philosophy: excellent service built on a strengthened foundation of quality and integrity.

1990

Into The Industrial Marketplace

AMS broadens its capabilities into light industrial and manufacturing, growing from a focused refrigeration shop into a true multidisciplinary mechanical contractor.

2012

A Defining Heavy-Industrial Milestone

A major refinery modernization project expands the AMS Midwest presence, a turning point peaking at roughly 1,000 tradesmen on the job and reshaping the trajectory of the business.

2017

100% Employee Owned

John Berzanskis hands the reins to the employees and AMS becomes a 100% Employee-Owned Company, with Ben Campbell appointed president to carry the mission forward.

Today

1,000+ Strong & Still Growing

Now 1,000+ dedicated employees, AMS continually invests in emerging technology while strengthening its presence in data centers, distribution, healthcare, and food processing across the Midwest.
